I've had an interest in nature photography for as long as I can remember, but needed the technical knowledge, time and equipment to really pursue it. I started getting serious about my photography in the mid 1990's. First, I purchased books by authors such as John Shaw, and Rod Planck. I also attended John and Barbara Gerlach's seminars to get an idea of how to start this new venture. After six months of study, I went out and purchased my first camera a Canon EOS 1-N, and a couple of lenses and started shooting. I've never looked back.
What you see on this website are just a few of the photo's I've taken. They all have their own story and I can remember the places and feelings I had as though I was back there in that place at that time. My goal has always been to find a way to share those special times with others who have similar interests.
I think the best time to work is around the edges of light. Although I enjoy working in the evening and spending the last hours of the day shooting. My favorite time is from pre-dawn through the first couple of hours of the day. I love that sense of the world waking up around me. There is something special about that early morning cry of an eagle, the trumpet of a swan, or the call of the wild turkey. If I'm lucky enough to capture one of nature's magic creatures on film, that's the icing on the cake.
I hope that you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them. If you have comments, please share them by e-mailing me at info@ducknest.us
